by Fae had just jumped out of the spells way when the tree dissolved from the heat. She felt the ray simmering near her body before it disappeared. Any burns that she had received from the blast were already healing quickly, though the pain of them still lingered. Wincing, Fae looked over to Sonya and her brother. Sonya seemed to have injured herself when the magic went haywire. Oh well, she thought, the less resistance tonight the better. As she thought, she could feel herself slowly getting weaker from being deprived of nourishment. All she had to worry about was the brother.

****That Night****
Sonya slowly opened her eyes. Everything was a blur at first and then everything came into focus. She was lying in a bed with soft blankets tucked under her chin and her head was resting against a small pillow. She stared up at the ceiling for a few minutes, trying to figure out why she was in a bed. "What happened?" she asked herself aloud. "You lost control of the magic," scowled a voice which Sonya recognized as Fye's. She turned her head towards where Fye's voice came from. He was sitting in a chair in a corner of the room with his arms folded across his chest. He was clearly angry, but with who Sonya didn't know. Her memory flooded back to her and she winced her heart throbbed painfully in her chest from the memory. "You're not hurt are you?" she ventured. "No," he replied, "but the doctor said no practice for a week or two."
Sonya sighed, half relieved to get a break, but still disappointed that she won't get any stronger for about two weeks. Sonya heard a howl outside. The sound was beautiful, like bells ringing together in harmony, but out of the corner of her eye she saw her brother leap to his feet in alarm. At first she didn't understand why he was so jumpy, but the she realized that the kind of wolf that populated this area didn't make bell sounds. She tried to sit up but was too weak. "Fye......we'll be alright, right?"
Fye looked around and seemed to relax a little, but not completely. "Yeah......I don't think it will come he-" He was cut off by the door slamming open and a gigantic white wolf standing in the door way.

The white wolf stood staring at the two elves before her. The she-wolf's head was level with the boys. Her emerald eyes switched from boy to girl and back to the boy again. She could smell the reek of fear pouring off from the girl, but the boy seemed more reserved. She took a step toward the boy and bared her fangs, each one at least the length of an index finger. The boy stepped back and prepared to defend himself, but any resistance was futile. She lunged at the young elf, opening her jaw to take a bite.

Fye quickly reached for his katana next to his own bed, but didn't reach it in time. The white wolf came down on him, making him topple over. It started gnawing at his shoulder. Fye screamed in pain, which made Sonya tumble out of bed. Since her light power was still pretty weak, she reached under her pillow to grab a concealed dagger. She raised it high above her head, but as she was about to bring it down, a deafening shriek cut into her mind. She dropped the dagger and covered her ears.
Sonya looked around her, but the house was gone, along with the white wolf and Fye. She appeared to be in a freezing snow covered wasteland caught in the middle of a blizzard. She shivered heavily, for her simple home-spun tunic and leggings didn't give her enough heat in this weather. Sonya tried to call out, but her voice was swallowed, never to be heard again, by the howling wind. She then grew sick, like she was about to vomit. She dizzily fell to the snow covered earth , but when she touched the snow, she was sucked back into her house. The deafening scream of Fye in agony brought her back to her senses. What just happened!?

Fae ripped at the boys shoulder, favoring the taste of his sweet blood. Soon the sound of his shriek grew hoarse and then died down in to whimper. As if he didn't have the will to fight anymore, he grew limp and Fae , thinking he had died, turned her attention to the girl. The young elf was on her knees panting and sweat dripped off her nose. Fae tilted her head, wondering why her next victim would be like this. Something else was ailing her, not shock. Faelivren transformed into her humanoid form and wiped the blood from her face. She then walked over to the girl and crouched down. She took hold of the girls chin and forced her face to look her way. Their eyes met and Fae could feel the girl trembling under her strength. She let the girl look over at her brothers body for a brief second before forcing her to look into her eyes again. "What are you trembling for elf?" she asked menacingly. "I thought elves could control their feelings?" She grinned evilly at the girl, revealing a wolves pointed teeth and long fangs.

Sonya stared in horror as the white 'wolf' transformed into a human woman form. She was still clutching her ears as the terrible screams echoed in her head. She glanced for a second at her brother, who seemed to be in searing pain as he gasped for air. Though his aura wasn't very strong, she could still feel it lingering. He was alive.
Sonya's neck gave a straining pain as it was yanked forward into the gaze of the woman's brilliant green eyes. The sheer intensity of them made Sonya want to pull back, in fear that her deepest secrets and worries would be drained out of her and into the possession of this strange woman. "What are you trembling for elf?" Sonya heard the woman ask her intensely. Sonya pushed aside the question and glanced at her brother again. "W-what have y-you d-done to h-him?" she asked trying to stifle her tears.

Faelivren looked over at the boy. Realizing he was still alive she said to the girl, "Oh nothing he won't live through, if he's strong enough that is." She looked back at the girl. "The one you should be worried about is yourself, don't you think?" She grinned again at the elf.

Sonya was pulled back into the gaze of the woman. By the looks of it, she seemed to have a taste for blood, which meant she was a vampire. But that didn't explain the changing of forms. She skimmed through her memory of past lessons Fye gave her: Vampires, Treemen, Gulons, Lamias, Chimeras, Shape shifters. Shape shifter! she exclaimed in her mind. She could just hold back tears of pleasure, because Shape shifters had their own weak spot.

Fae lifted an eyebrow when she saw the girls eyes grow moist. Any other person would think that they tears were from fear, but she couldn't smell fear coming from the girl anymore. Knowing that not getting away from the girl could cost her her life, she dropped the girl and back flipped onto a high dresser. She frowned and cocked her head to the side. "What are you so happy about!?" she demanded.

Sonya smiled. "It's not really anything. I'm just remembering." She wiped the tears off her cheeks, but more just ran down. She took the chance of looking up to the Shapeshifter's eyes.
